Hi Jan,The difference in the two series of this model is purely cosmetic and there is no functional differences.There is no lid lock on any of the Speed Queen top load washers sold in Australia.The issue that you have is likely because you are using the "High Efficiency" option which according to the user guide is only suited to lightly soiled clothes and that fabric softener should not be used with that option.You can download a user guide from www.speedqueen.com.au or contact your nearest Speed Queen office on 1300927437.
